Tarot Cards, etc

I'm not sure if this should be in here or New Age, but...

I was wondering what kinds of cards, stones, etc you guys use, how and such. Do you have any specific "rituals" you perform with them? (cleansing, specific shuffling/cutting, etc). What are your favorite spreads? What kind of setting do you find most receptive to your work?

I'll come back and answer for myself later, I just wanted to see what was out there, and maybe learn a new spread or such.

I use playing cards actually..
my parents taught me that it's more true..
than tarot cards..
as for spreads..
I use all kinds..
it just really depends on what I'm looking for..
also with the playing cards...as well as tarot..
you can ask 1 question and draw a card type thing..
if you want some new spreads..

i've seen readings done with regular playing cards, but they never "felt" right to me... i know all about the variety of spreads- it's crazy.

i actually own runes but i don't really like them; again, they just don't feel right.

i think i prefer more of a visual to concentrate on, yknow?

If you get some buckeyes and crush them with a mortar and pestle you can read the images.

you can read tea leaves
i use more celtic reading style, but i am experimenting still
i find runes a bit difficult

I haven't done much with my tarot cards in a while. So far have always used the split hexagram spread. I usually only end up pulling them out if one of my friends want a reading. I sometimes have a difficult time interpreting my own reading. Probably because I end up trying to think about it to much when doing it for me. Maybe if I practice and have some time to learn a little more about it I will make a topic for free readings. That would be fun and could be good for practice. I doubt I could do a very accurate one over the computer but it would be something to do.

I use two divination tools; a set of Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot, and a pendulum. The only thing which resembles a ritual I do with either is the way I shuffle my tarot cards. They really don't like being shuffled like a deck of cards and still seem to genuinely hate my boyfriend for having done so. Instead I grab little piles of 10 or 20 and hold them above the rest of the deck, edge to edge, and rock them back and forth so they may fall back into the deck as they wish.

The spreads I use most often are the Thoth Spread and the one modeled after the Tree of Life (I forget which name is currently most popular for it).

As for a setting in which I am receptive, that's just a matter of calming my mind.

Glad to find my habit of replying like that will be well received here. I like the idea that it's "more true." Really, it's about the symbolism of the card and how it speaks to you at that moment. Hence the reason I am so fond of the Thoth deck. There's so much symbolism that the cards can always speak to you, and do so in a very specific and distinctive way each time.
