Stupid question about Wicca...
Alright, I decided I would start reading about it, take notes, and practice myself for a year and a day to see if its for me. I have been reading, taking notes, and working on learning stuff for the past two days but now I am a little confused about something. I just started reading about Gods and Goddesses. From what I am reading I cannot figure out the difference between "The Lord and Lady" and different deities. What is meant by the term Lord and Lady? From what I am reading it sounds almost like they are something separate from the deities you would choose to work with over time. I'm really confused on the way this is worded. I wish I had someone that was into this to help me in reality but I don't. If anyone practices Wicca and could explain this to me it would help.
To be more specific I got confused when I was reading that not all Wiccans choose different deities and some only work with the Lord and Lady. That made me confused about what exactly the Lord and Lady are in comparison with other Gods and Goddesses.

I am not wiccan, but if my prior knowledge is correct from a friend who does practice, the Lord and Lady are similar to a concept of a "Galactic Male" and "Galactic Female" deity pair. They are the ultimate Deity, representing masculine and feminine qualities that all other demi-urge type deities receive their power from.
I am not sure if that is true, that is what someone told me, but I hope it helps at least point you in the right direction.

Thanks, that does help.
I also just decided posted this on a Wiccan forum so I should be able to get an answer from some people that are Wiccan soon.

You would have to make an account to see the real forum so I will just quote the people. If you do want to make an account here is the link to the topic.

I will have a go at explaining it for you.
The Lord and Lady is the God and Goddesse.
Some people choose to call there dietys Lord and Lady because haveing to choose from them can be a little overwhelming.
There are thousands of them each with a diffrent name from all over the world. If you were to feel a connection with the Greek Pantheons then you would start to learn all about them. Or if you feel a pull towards Celtic pantheons or Norse Pantheons then you would want to learn about them and work with them.
For example i work with the lord and Lady in all rituals being grateful for all the things in my life because there isnt one paticular dietie i can thank because i dont honestly know who to thank. Only when i do sabbats do i choose an idividual one.
But if i needed to guidence i would call to a perticular God or Goddess for example today i need to be a strong woman and be wise, so i will be calling on Athene Goddess of of wise counsel, war, the defence of towns, heroic endeavour to keep me strong and to not speak foolishly.
I dont useually call to any in paticular because me personally i dont think it wise to do it. esspeciaslly the Greek Gods they can be a bit terrifying at times lol. Some will only use diffrent dietys and never just see them as the lord and lady.
Thats all i have for now but others will help more. .

Athen_Dreya hit the nail on the head for you. It's just another way of saying "I call upon the God and Goddess" or a particular name of a deity.

Quote:
The lord and Lady are more commonly known as the God and Goddess. They represent any God or Goddess you choose to invoke, depending on the type of spell you are casting or ritual you are performing. some people just call upon their chosen God or Goddess to guide them through troubles in everyday life but some may become a little too dependent on one or two of them, which is not wise. explore all the different God's and Goddesses around and when you feel settled with a few it will become easier to invoke them to your needs.
Hope this helps!

My friend Brandy is a Wiccan, and I've heard something a little different than what has been described here.
The God and Goddess are representative of life and death. There are holidays that celebrate when the God of Death is born, when the two of them meet (and fall in love), and when the God of Death dies. These are annual, as the God of Death is only the God of Death because he fulfills his role by dying. He is born again every year, to repeat the cycle.
Anything else she has told me was in private, and I have recently learned that she told it to me in confidence (evidently, I wasn't supposed to repeat what she had told me, even though I already have a few times). So I can't say anything more.

^I have not heard that yet but I also have not looked into much about the holidays other than the basics of what they stand for and how they are celebrated. I don't even remember everything about them yet. I need to read something specifically about the holidays at some point.
It could be possible that is just how a certain Wiccan tradition or coven looks at it. There are various types of Wicca that is why it is not always good to try and generalize some things when talking to people without letting them know it is just part of their tradition or the coven they belong to.
I would think she may have not wanted you to talk about it because it was most likely part of her tradition, coven, or even something personal to her.

The explanation she gave was that it was generally passed down between people of the specific... what we were talking about.

the way i think of it is like this.....you have individual people, like rist or myself, which correlates with individual deities. Then you have male and female in general, which relates to the God/Lord and Goddess/Lady. The deities can be different in personality and other things, but they are all derived from the Lord and Lady.

Alright, well since I am just starting to get into it I am just going to think of them as the Lord (God) and Lady (Goddess). Either way the God and Goddess are two parts of a whole. I think I may have just been trying to look into it to deeply right now. I think I have a understanding of it to a point that satisfies me for now. I will just keep learning and see where it takes me and what I figure out. I will probably start to understand everything better once I get more into it and have been studying for a while. It's only been a couple days since I decided I would give it a try so I can't expect to completely understand everything already.
