Confused reader
ok so heres my story. i come from a small town in oklahoma and of course, most of the people were southern baptist and did not allow young people to read into any other religion. when i got older, i started reading about ALL religions because i never felt quite right about what my family believed. i have now moved to seattle, the city of open minds, and i really want to learn more about paeganism. i am not just wanting to join a fad, or anything like that, i am just confused about certain things and am wondering if anyone would like to give me some advice?

There are many different types of paganism. I would recommend finding out what interest you the most and read about it. You could start by just looking around on the internet for information. When you find out what you want to look into you should buy a book on it and read about it.

Wikipedia will give you the basics of most pagan faiths. I wouldn't purchase much stock in the validity of the details, though. For that you should find a more professional source.

If you're looking for reading materials, everything I've read by Silver Ravenwolf has been extremely helpful. The most information (I think) will probably come from her book "Solitary Witch"

senza, it helps if you look up in the corner of posts to check the date before you go trying to raise the dead.

I was wondering where this thread came from.
Apparently I don't know how to check the date either.

that's ok, i think it happens to everyone at some point. at least you actually had something to contribute to it, not some one-liner. I guess I'll contribute something too while we're already at it.
I'd like to point out that there's a lot more to paganism than just wicca. I'd recommend going to a bookstore and browsing their new age section (since that seems to be where most of the paganism stuff is) and just looking to see what kind of things attract you.
You can also see if you can find a pagan that you both feel comfortable having them explain their faith to you, but be warned on this, you will only be getting 1 person's interpretation of that particular religion.

Ravenwolf is alright for the basics of some magick and witchcraft. Not paganism in general. I would only recommend her for someone that wants light reading material at a middle school level. Thats not a bad thing to start with when it comes to things like magick or witchcraft because most people have no clue where to start but I would certainly not use her to learn about paganism and not for everything about witchcraft or magick. I also would recommend other books if you are specifically getting into Wicca. Ravenwolf is alright but she does miss some topics and puts a lot of her own opinion in while at other times telling you to do what works for you. Most of her what to do opinions are outside of magick and targeted again at the younger groups. Such as safe sex, not using drugs, and stuff like that. It's great that shes trying to help but thats not why people get a book on this kind of stuff. Her books are still fun to read though.
