Muslim Outrage

Alright, I did a quick check of thread titles, but if I missed an ongoing discussion about this already, please simply close this thread.

I am not interested in offending anybody by this, and I am not discriminating... rather I am pointing out a classic example of human stupidity.

We all know a few months ago the Pope made a speech imploring the fanatical religious factions to stop fighting. In this speech he used a quote by a Byzantine emperor to illustrate that there is a history of violence among the different sects. Whether at war with each other or with other people.
He in no way even inferred any belief in the truth behind the quote, he merely used it to emphasize a point (that being, there is violence in that area).

Now, of course, the section of the speech was taken out of context and spread, leading to an uprising from the radicals. People chanting 'death to the Pope' and burning representations of him. All for what? To prove they're not violent.
Seems pretty fucking self-defeating to me.

"How dare you call us violent! We're going to kill you!"
I don't know about you, but I'm not convinced.

Now, granted, this is a small fraction of the Muslim population, but as I said before I'm not discriminating - I'm pointing out human stupidity.

They're being irrational, illogical, and ultimately just defeating their own efforts by adding to the list of violent actions they have an unfortunately accumulated. It's rediculous.

Now, I consider it also very stupid on the Pope's part to have used such an easily misconstrued quote (not that I believe some second-thinking on the part of the radicals would have resulted in no problems whatsoever). The people of that faith have seen themselves as constantly under siege, and therefore are extremely defensive. The Pope walked a dangerous line and wound up smearing it - allowing for the problems to arise.

So what's to be done? Forgive and forget. Fuck. It is absurd the levels of fanatasism these radicals are displaying all over a FALSE INTERPRETATION. The Pope is not your enemy. Stop looking for a fight.

Please... my eyes are bleeding.

Other than that, I agree that the RADICALISTS need to get over their own pride. Muslims as a whole, however, should not be judged or stereotyped by the fanatical members of their society.

First off im to lazy to make it all pretty for you to read im not tryin to be a dick but dont act a ass toward my typein please if you dont like it dont read it and heres somthing for info on pride as a sin

St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430 A.D.) wrote, "'Pride is the commencement of all sin'6 because it was this which overthrew the devil, from whom arose the origin of sin; and afterwards, when his malice and envy pursued man, who was yet standing in his uprightness, it subverted him in the same way in which he himself fell. For the serpent, in fact, only sought for the door of pride whereby to enter when he said, 'Ye shall be as gods.'"7

well, i was raised catholic, and i STILL admire pope john paul the second 9 he died like 2 years ago) but pope benedict ( current pope) doesnt seem to have his predecessor's respect for other paths of belief.

he should remember that the first 5 books of the bible are also in the jewish torah AND the muslim koran. also, christianity , in some aspects, is closer to islam than it is to judaism... MUSLIMS believe in the virgin birth of jesus, son of mary.

obviously there are differences in doctrines , especially concerning the divinity of jesus, but nonetheless, muslims venerate him as a great prophet sent by god.

we are not all so different after all, and we should remember what pope john paul the second taught us... you can have your beliefs, but be TOLERANT of others. he prayed with muslims. he paryed with toaists. he was welcomed into communist stronghold...and now this pope thinks he can undo it all, with his radical upsetting of the other abrahamic faiths. its a shame

what most people do not know, is that john paul the second was the pope for a very long time. the vatican , when they saw that this great man was dying, also realised that the peace that he'd built wouldnt last, and withing the catholic church there would probably soon be another schism... ( mush like when the orthodox catholic split from the roman catholics) they werent sure how/ when that would happen, OR how the church would be involved in the global politics of this growing war we have going on in the middle east/ tension in asia. they didnt want a pope who would be reigning for such a long interim as john paul the II, becuase so much change is to come, they didnt want the church to appear too stoic, with one man standing his ground through it all... so they chose benedict, who is very old. they basically wanted someone to sit on the throne of peter long enough for the church to survey they situation and evaluate their next move, then die, so they can put someone on there who will be a political as well as religious figure. basically, another john paul.

basically benedict is a puppet.

someone should tell him that.

Benedict was also Jean Paul's enforcer. He kept him on-track, and was pretty much the next most influential member of the entire Catholic church during Jean Paul's reign.

And what happened to the other posts I made? If the mods took them to have babies with, I will file charges if you try to slam child support on me.

(It's spelled with an 'e'...)

And not necessarily without tact... just without Jean Paul's diplomatic skill.

lol sorry about the typo...

but i personally think it shows an extreme lack of tact to insult and entire religion based on the actions of a few radicals. the catholic church didnt like it very much when people though ALL priests were dishonest sex offenders.

Did you miss what I had said a little earlier? He didn't insult the religion! The quote he used definately illustrated the violent history of the people, but he was using it to emphasize that there was violence occuring in the present day, and that it needed to stop.
I repeat, he didn't call the entire religion violent!
