what am i?

alright...so i was born to Catholic parents, baptized, confirmed, went to Catholic gradeschool and am now going to a Catholic high school yadda yadda yadda

never really believed that there's only the trinity, Jesus, and the world is full of sin so you should feel guilt and mourn your faith instead of celebrate it

i believe that there were many holy men throughout history that performed miracles and led people to deeper understandings of faith in God or a higher power...Jesus was one such dude

i also believe that we are all God, and God is all of us...which makes everyone divine and human at the same time, thus giving everyone the potential to manipulate his or her existence for better or for worse

and although i may happen to call Her God, that doesn't mean She isn't also Brahma, Allah or Buddha as well...for God goes by all of these names - so i believe anyways - i honestly think everyone worshipping a higher power is worshipping the same God...just in different forms
who's to say that God can't be a Sun God and Vishnu and Buddha...for She can take on many shapes: male, female, diety

i also believe in an equal balance of forces within nature...call it Ying and Yang, good and evil, chi, karma or whatever you wish...one action cannot occur without an opposite reaction somewhere

and finally there is a deep importance of self being and awareness...looking inward and keeping yourself centered...a balance of the mind, spirit, and heart is needed; for in the end these are our only tools for living life to the fullest

this isn't exactly everything i believe...but it's a taste...and i'm in no way trying to force this philosophy on anyone and it's pefectly great if you disagree with any or all of it

my friend says i'm a Unitarian Universalist...is that in fact what i really am?

Unitarian can be anything, they are a religion where you retains some christian beliefs but can display your own and you must find your own way to enlightenment. You would border on this and something to a Taoist. In Taoism we believe that God is a mighty being but is so powerful that not one being, person, diety, can consume all his power and display it to us. That is why God is within us. Within all of us. We believe that everyone must find thier own path to enlightenment.

However, since you do believe in the one mighty God, you would deffinately fit into Unitarian Universalism. If you would want a more structured religion then Taoisim would fit as far as what I have studied on religions. But you seem to have your own ideals so I would suggest studying more on Unitarian Universalism.

I hope you find what you seek on your quest to enlightenment, good luck and God bless.

That's a broad label, used in circles of Christians to basically say they're the only ones who get to go to heaven (nyah nyah).

Your views sound very similar to mine, and I have no name for my faith either. Perhaps faiths do not need names as they are personal matters to begin with.

May your path be filled with light.

Namaste,
Craig

I'd say it's as good a classification as any.

Just to clarify, Buddha is not God. Buddha or Siddhartha was an actual man. He thought he was getting closer to God, but kind of extended things a bit. He takes much of the Catholic doctrine and expands upon them. There are even some writings that suggest Buddha was a Christian and that his many levels of being were just different ways of meditation which is always good in any religion.

1. Catholic doctrine didn't exist when Buddha was around

2. Neither was Christianity.
