Christian "rules"

Jesus taught, fed, and healed many, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified at Calvary, died and then rose after three days, and ascended into Heaven, defeating sin and spiritual death for all time. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Love the Lord your God above all else, with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Love your neighbor as yourself.

These are the only stipulations in Christianity. The first is based on belief, and the second is based on behavior. These are our rules.

So... the Christian Bible isn't just the new testament... but you keep saying it all comes down to the new testament... why not simply ditch the old testament if Jesus is all that matters?

Well I didn't say Jesus is all that matters. I was speaking from a "This is how you should live your life if you claim Christ as your savior" standpoint.

However, the Old testament is the background of the culture of the New Testament. Heck, it IS the culture of the New Testament. It's like a two act play. If you arrive at the second half, you get a great message, and that's awesome... But if you watch the whole thing, you get a much MUCH deeper understanding of the characters, motives, places, the actions themselves; everything makes more sense in context. That's why. And I figure that if God didn't think the Old Testament was important, it wouldn't have been kept in the canonization process, or written in the first place.

Basically. It doesn't mean you love them less, though. I know that once I started to understand who Christ is, and live more and more in following him and his teachings, I was able to forgive people I had hated, and I can safely say I love my family and friends now more than I ever did before.

This may be random, and I may be wrong, but I don't think you can truly love your family unless you love Christ first and foremost...everything else is a needy obsession, or something akin to that, perhaps.

And loving Christ happens to not be a 'needy obsession'? I've known people who were so broken down who only accepted the faith because they needed something so 'accepting' to give them a place in the world.
They needed to believe, or totally break down, so they believed.

I truly love my family and I think this whole Jesus Christ shit is bullshit.

I love myself and I accept me.
I love those who are close to me and that is all that I need.
