Can God Lie?

hey, not sure if this should be in philosophy or religion, but i assume it'll get put where it belongs...
Can God lie? if so, would that destroy the universe or would the universe alter itself to make God true. If the universe does alter, does that still mean that God lied?

you.... are someone who needs to get out of your own perspective. This is a really thought provoking question..

Think for just a minute that there MAY BE some omniscient, omnipotent God. Think about the question then. But what motive would a God like this have to lie if He could just change reality to allow his "truth" to be TRUTH.

Odd, I know, just think about it.

But I think that God IS capable of lying, but has no motive to.

Alright. Giving the benefit of the doubt to the existence to such an entity, one must consider a few things.
WHY: God is said to be benevolent. If He loves his children so much, why would he lie to them?
IF: All scripture leads to the conclusion that God is infallible. If He were to lie, untold consequences would occur. Watch Dogma by Kevin Smith (it's another Jay and Silent Bob movie) for an example.
HOW: Modern philosophy has described God as perfect in every way. Truth is an associated perfection. To be untrue would go against his nature, and thus He wouldn't be God.

Which basically covers it. God is also unchanging, and is love. Love is truth, and love is God. Therefore, God is both literally truth and love, and can't lie.

How would you know if "GOD" lied to you anyways unless it comes down from where ever it is and tells you..

god is supposed to be perfect so why would he lie? that would imply that he has done something wrong that he's ashamed of in some way. there would be no reason for him to lie. unless he made a promise and unknowning lied but even then he's supposed to be all knowing as well. wow if god could lie then .... you could discredit christians everywhere. well golly g wilikers batman.
