Now we all know that O'reily is a fucking douchebag. Just because Damon Dash was making clear points and an intellectual arguement he had to get cut off. Obviously it isnt anyone in hip hop that is the problem for the children today. Just because they say certain things in songs that are related to sex or drugs its their fault. You never see rock being blamed for it. I feel that this is obviously inconspicuous racism in the eye of media. The fact that the parents dont monitor what their kids watch or listen to is the main problem. Rappers dont make music aimed at children aged that low. But because of the parents not being parents many kids will grow up thinking its cool to have a gun and eventually land themselves dead or in jail. Oh well, There is my shit fit for today.
Well if violence and female put downs were not glorified, there would not be a problem.
Don't like it? Don't listen. I agree that many of these people are poor role models for young black men and women in this country (or young men and women of any color for that matter), but if we constantly shift blame for individual's actions onto someone else, where is the accountability?
That's like blaming a video game or a movie for causing you to kill someone. Most of us have played or viewed violent movies, but how many of us have gone out and killed someone?
Anyone here who's seen saw? Have you started ensnaring people in devious traps designed to force them to fight for survival? Anyone here play GTA? How many of you have stolen a car, robbed a store, and then mowed down 2 dozen people in the street while trying to outrun the cops because you played the game?
People who commit these acts may be influenced to some extent by such media, but the seed was planted long before it bloomed. In the same way to say that those kids from columbine shot up the place because they listened to Marilyn Manson is foolishness. What drew them to that in the first place? Plenty of people listen to MM without committing atrocities.
I agree that I find a lot of lyrics and messages in the hip-hop/rap community offensive personally, but hey, it's their right to make that garbage. I will not support them, and I will tell others who listen to them how I feel as well.
Example, I think Eminem is very talented, but because of some of his negative messages, I refuse to buy his music, and when asked if I like him, I tell people exactly that.
So yeah, there's negative stuff, but if we start allowing media to absorb the blame for actions of individuals, we are handing over whatever small amounts of freedom in the media actually still exist (and believe me, it's not much left).

O'Reilly, a douchebag? Ain't that a little modest? lol
I've lived in the BK all my life and I am exposed to, and have listened to hip-hop all my life. Bigge Smalls, Dipset, Chyno Nyno...the list goes on and on. But you don't see me going around degrading women or anything like that. To quote Brother of Yeshua...

You know what? I may not support the message that these artists send out and I sure as hell (when I'm damn ready to take that step) ain't going to let my kids turn out that way either. Will I let them listen to hip hop? Yes, I will, because regardless, as eclectic as I am, I consider any kind of music as a form of art. The job of teaching our kids not to act in such a way is the job of the parents.
Children are influenced more by their sorroundings and how they are bought up, and as long as at least one parent has an active role in that child's life, that child has as much potential as anyone else who's going to an Ivy League school (that busted their ass for it) today.

Example: If a kid sees his dad beat his mom everyday, violence to women is an acceptable way of life, because that's what they see.
So if this child sees movies/video games/music/etc. that promotes violence against women, it is not causing him to be violent, but simply reinforcing a view that was already instilled upon him by his father.
That's why I view parents as a more critical of an issue than the music, tv, or whatever that a kid indulges in as entertainment.

Regardless, all this new 'hiphop' sounds like the same repetitive Garbaaaaage to me...and their message is pointless... why dont they Rap about something important like Immortal Technique does??
"i'm like a ghetto reporter, I tell it like it is niiiiggaaaa...i'm the dopest mofucka out there fooo"
I hardly listen to the new shit. Old school rap is where its fucking at. There are select few that are standing out to me right now. Chamillionaire's song "Evening News" is the realest song I have heard. Lil wayne of course. Tech N9ne and of course Lupe Fiasco.
