Nebraska mall shooting

OMAHA, Nebraska (Reuters) - A 19-year-old man killed eight people and then himself with an assault rifle at a busy mall in Omaha on Wednesday, sending terrified workers and Christmas shoppers scrambling for cover.

"Now I will be famous," the gunman wrote in a suicide note, his landlady told CNN after finding a three-part document that she said included his will.

Police declined to discuss the contents of the note.

Five people were wounded, two of them critically, in the early afternoon rampage in the Midwestern U.S. city. Most of the victims at the upscale Westroads Mall were shot inside the Von Maur department store near the children's clothing area.

Yeah, I heard about this at midnight when someone called and woke me up to talk about their wedding on here...

What can I say? The guy seems to have been highly disturbed, especially if he did this just to be "famous".

As messed up as it may be how did he only kill eight people in a busy mall? He will not be famous for that even if he thinks so. You just don't go down in history for killing eight people in a mall and having a note saying you will be famous. You are just looked at like an attention whore and a idiot that can't shoot a gun. How pathetic, I can't get over the low kill count. Did he even bother trying to figure out the security or think of a plan before he did it? In a busy mall you would expect a massacre, but no. You just end up with some guy that can't even fire a gun.

He probably just unloaded one clip...at least, that's what I'm thinking.

He is still an idiot and obviously didn't plan it out very well. Even I have thought before that a mall would be the perfect place for someone to go on a killing spree if they were going to do it. Think about how busy it can get. If someone planed it out good it could be a disaster. Think about how many kills someone could get on black Friday or something like that. They could plan the entire thing in advance. Find the best place to start shooting and even try to get a idea of how the security works. They could even make small explosives. The information on that stuff is out there and from what I understand some explosives are not hard to make. In a packed mall that could do some serious damage with people so close to each other.

Anyways, yeah, in a crowded mall, I would probably use a wide spread weapon, like a shotgun, at least at first. Probably the best idea would be to lay out small explosives at the entrances at the mall, forcing everyone towards the middle--towards you--and then taking them down from there, or start somewhere like the food court...of course, you need to think about if you have a two-story mall or not.

I don't know, I'm going to stop thinking like that.

It's sad how often stuff like this happens. You don't have to be stupid to think something like this will gain you attention, just slightly psychotic, lol they're not the best planners. I mean, honestly I can't even count on two hands all the times I've heard plots like this at my work and they're not well thought out because they can't see past one or two aspects of what they want to accomplish.
Unfortunate this had to happen, hopefully they do something about gun control. I'm all about owning a gun if you want but I'm more about people like this not being able to get their hands on one.

When the fuck will the police do their fucking job? Honestly, there's been a ton of shootings just like this and in at least 80%-90% of them, the gunman offs himself in the end like a fucking PUSSY! We need to have trained police who know how to deal with this kind of shit. Given, in this situation it may not have worked that well due to the low kill count, which leads me to believe it didn't last very long, but Columbine, any hostage situation, anything like that, the police should be able to subdue the guy without killing him first, even if he is armed, I'm 20 years old and I could come up with a plan good enough to disarm a guy wailing a semi automatic weapon around a busy mall, I mean, we do have body armor now a days... I would definitely take a bullet to the vest if it would save someones life, not to mention the element of surprise, and the fact that he was a skinny little nothingness of a human being (did anyone see the guys photo?).

We need better police responses and training and better intel in situations like this.

Oh yeah, can someone say fuckin' CRY BABY too?! "ohh my girlfriend broke up with me, I lost my job at McDonalds, omg my life is over boo hoo hoo!"
