i have this art class right and the people in it seem really cool...

but on the flip side they just seem to be weird. like this one kid. the project

is to paint a self-portrit. and to use any medium you like. and this kid decieds

he would reather do a painting of some dead chickens.. it turned out really

cool but what did it have to do with him.. i'm still confuzled...

Some artists are considered weirdos by society..

Thats what makes them artists in some cases.. Geniuses for that matter..

Many artists thrive on breaking from the norm, expressing themselves in a way noone but they would understand. My sister being one of them, I see all kinds of creepy shit that she paints. But I still consider it excellent art, she's very talented.

Point being, art is what you make it, so make it your own.

we had to do a self portrait (kind of) in my art class last semester. Well it did not involve painting us, but objects that describe who we are or whatnot. Anyways, I think that is what the guy is trying to get through, he is painting what he feels like and how he feels like.

Towards what the guy in her calss did or in general art for that matter..

Well, the fact that she refers to her classmates as weird instead of creative, unique, or different tells me that she's not "getting it".

I think you are all being a bit hard on her. I find that many a conceited artist will do such a thing, as her example, paint chickens instead of him or herself, to be "different" and "artsy" and really show his "creative side". Or, on the other hand, this is, how one of you described, this kids view of himself. I think she reacted with w/e because you addressed her as boring and never understanding the art world. Thats pretty damn harsh. I do agree with what you all said, such as "Many artists thrive on breaking from the norm, expressing themselves in a way noone but they would understand...Point being, art is what you make it, so make it your own." That is absolutely true. I think it takes a great deal of confidence to create something that goes against the norm. But, perhaps, to ease up on this girl, when you begin in the art world, and you begin to take art classes, you do see some pretty weird things. I think it was a totally acceptable post to explain this unique self portrait... I would have been thinking the exact same thing... (as an artist)
