I was just thinking about how some people act like every single thing used for fun or entertainment is evil. People go on about how, video games, television, sex, or even certain books are bad for you. I guess it is normally the religions fanatics that do it but I think its ridiculous. I guess anything isn't great for someone if they overindulge themselves. What I don't understand is where these people get there facts from. They never have any good reasons to back up what they say.

For example, someone might say that a movie is bad because it has sex or violence in it. I want some good reasons why sex is bad because I can think of plenty of reasons that we can't even survive without it. It's a proven fact that sex is not only healthy for people but it is needed for reproduction. Sex is only bad when stupid people reproduce. I also want to know how violence makes a movie bad. If someone can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality to the point that they would do what they see then they belong in a mental hospital. If they are too young then the parents should not be letting their kids watch it in the first place.

I could keep going but I will stop here.

Does anyone else find this extremely annoying?

Yes....
I come from a family with strong beliefs in many different religions but some of the ideas seem crazy. I was spending time with a aunt in Mississippi and they had no internet,tv or entertainment source that wasn't the bible. Kids couldn't even watch veggies tales, and they're cool! She chastised me about my music and book choices, And I also got in trouble for teaching her little ones to box waltz. (they didn't believe in dancing) The trip was cut a little short.

I have this ongoing debate with most people to show me Where (in whatever book their belief system uses as a guide) It says they are not allowed to do certain things. To me it all seems to be How they( or whoever telling them) decipher it.

That is exactly what I would like to know. Where does it say anything about TV and video games or watching fake violence in their holy book? I would think it says nothing about those things.

Believe It or Not, that was a topic in our Criminal Justice Class on Monday. "Nowhere in the Bible does it say we can't fuck!," my professor says.

As for everything in the media today. It's a fact of life. Parents are trying to shelter their kids from the world, and that will in fact lead to their devastation when it comes time to go into the real world.

people always try and find excuses to make something bad, hell my parents criticize me reading fiction, they say "why dont you read something Christian" it just makes me go ". . . ". They say its not educational and that it doesnt help, I say its a source of entertainment just like tv. Sometimes you cant just argue with people because they are so stuck in their retro world that they see change as evil. Lets take music for example 70 or so years ago Jazz was "the devil's music" change is evil according to them.

Interesting how some of these people will condemn violent shows and movies even though the Bible has violence in it as well. Uh, the Old Testament? And Eye for an Eye? How about the story of Cain who killed his brother Abel? That wasn't a very nice thing to do now was it?

Sorry people are different and have different morals from you. We all wish we could be like you, but we can't. Some parents don't like their children watching people get their head chopped off or a couple fucking doggy style. Children are easily influenced and if they aren't taught the right way, they could do something stupid. Some parents are stupid. Do you honestly care about the way other people run their lives this much?

Thats nothing there are plenty more violent verses in the Bible. When The passion of Christ movie came out there were people complaining about the rating. They thought children should see the violence and what happened to Christ. I guess it is supposed to be different somehow if it's from the Bible.

To be honest, yes, I do care how people teach their kids. Many teach their kids improper habits or don't teach their children anything at all. It is a well known fact that children that aren't taught proper morals and such are more susceptible to gangs, gang violence, and crime. What do you think murder comes from most of the time? A multitude of individuals that have committed murder have a past history of a rough childhood.

Would you pass up a chance to help change what our future could be by raising your children correctly? Or would you let the parents raise a kid that gets into crime and kills someone? There is no harm in having proper morals, and while I do agree that some things such as sex and people getting their heads chopped off is inappropriate for certain age groups, that wasn't the topic.

The topic was whether or not censorship was a good or bad thing when applied to things that many take for granted, movies, for instance; or video games. Many people declare that teenagers reading about sex and it's risks/benefits are preparing them for underage sex. They fail to mention the fact that many see that and go, "that's not going to be me".

Sex and Violence is the basis of society. Sex-because it is a naturally healthy activity; Violence because there is always one disgruntled individual, someone that thinks that they deserve something for nothing, or that another person should die.

I didn't want to drag this into our thread, but look at Iraq on CNN lately. They say that seeing something in the MOVIES is bad...the WAR, yes, its a fucking war; is publicized nationwide on television daily, and is REAL. This isn't fake shit that's pulled in the movies, this is REAL. 100-fucking-% real... there's no get up and go home after being blown up. You talk about censoring children from the reality of life, then you take away the single thing that makes us human. By sheltering them from fear and violence, you take away their compassion by human nature.
One sentence can voice for a nation what we believe, but one act of terrorism can make a nation show the world what we believe.
