Apologizing to save face
Have you ever just apologized but not so much that you were sorry but just to keep the peace when fighting?

Mostly because when you say sorry to people, they feel like theyve achieved something and dont yell at/hurt you.
Avoiding trouble is always top priority, do you not think?
If its better for them AND you, why bother arguing.

My mom every time I sincerely apologized for doing something (usually by accident) would get to the point where she would say sorry doesn't cut it. I can be clumsy sometimes, I mean I have CP and LD for Christ's sake and it's like she's supposedly a good, strong Christian but she can't practice one thing she teaches. And that's forgiveness. That's why sometimes I despise saying sorry to family members because it's usually just an apology to save face and right now, I'm trying to get out of aunt's house ASAP. I love the woman but she's too hard to live with. She's much worse than my mom.

I rarely say sorry if I don't truly mean it. It may be a product of stubbornness and pride, but I don't know... If I didn't do anything to apologize for, why lie?
My best friend says sorry all the time, for the stupidest shit, just because he doesn't want to deal with the situation. He thinks apologizing will stop the fighting, and therefore he won't have to listen to the other person (more often than not, his girlfriend) bitch anymore. He's trying to pull the same crap with me right now, and I basically called him out and said "sorry doesn't mean shit coming from you anymore."
I don't understand why it's so difficult to be honest these days.

Well sometimes you try to be honest but your life or something in your life just gets threatened. I can be a real drag dealing with my family. I don't just apologize to random people.

Wow, I've read some of your posts and you seem quite rare for your generation, how old are you?

Well, maybe it comes naturally, especially with family, you are made to apologize when you do something wrong, or if you are falsely perceived to have done something wrong and can't convince people you're correct.
Sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't. Like, I apologize to customers who are really just stupid, but I don't care about them because they leave in 5 minutes. But while I'll try to admit anything I shouldn't have done I try to stick to those things I think I should have done.

As Ginevra said, I'm 18. And I'll take your comment on it as a compliment.
