A little help?
So right now I basically don't know what I should do with my life. I have 2 options I've narrowed it down to, I can either go to community college for 2 years, then transfer to a university, and also work at the same time. I don't know how long that would take me, if I were a fulltime student I wouldn't be able to work fulltime, so it'd have to be part time for both. Then I'd have to find some roommates and move out, my dad is really getting on my ass lately. Then my other option is join the Air Force, which I really wanted to do ever since I was a kid, since like 10 years old I've wanted to fly fighter jets. I know it's rediculiously competetive, and everything else about it, I've done tons of research about that career. I also want to serve the country and I know it probably sounds stupid, but make whatever difference in the world I can. If I join the Air Force, or some other branch, the education would be 100% free, I just don't know how long it would take to actually become a pilot. There's a lot of unknown stuff I don't know about that career path. Either way, I want to get an education first, I don't want to just sit and stay on one job the rest of my life...

I think you should talk to a recruiter or something and get as much information as you can about what it would take to get into the Airforce

Go Air Force, dude. There really isn't an option there if you actually WANT to serve in the armed forces.

Alright. I wasn't going to support the military idea until I saw that you said it is something you have been wanting to do for a while now. I hate when my friends and people I care about join the military because it is their last option to get education or to make money.
You need to understand though that when you join the military and they pay for you to go to college, you will be a full time soldier and a part time student and you also pay them back with time. For the amount of years that you are going to school, you will have to be in the military those many years afterwards. So yea, they pay for you to go to school and your payment back is your time. You also need to understand that if you get deployed, then you will not be able to go to college while you are gone but you will still be enrolled in school. So it kind of screws you if you don't want to be in there too long but if you want to be in the military and get an education as well and time is not a factor to you, than that will be a good choice.
Your recruiter will not tell you those things. Recruiters tell you anything that you want to hear to get you to join because that is their job.
So I hope I helped you out.

Don't they have an option where you can do the years first and then go to college? I know a few friends of mine who did their years first, and then went to college.

she's right you need to weigh your options. but it sounds like you really want to go into the air force. so i say you should do that. you can always go to college later.

Well if he still wants to go into the Air Force and not just do it because he needs/wants to go to college, than it is alright for him to join for college because he wants to be in the Air Force anyway.

From what you wrote, it sounds like you've already chosen the Air Force. I'd say go with it since it's what you've wanted to do since you were a kid. Even if it takes some extra time to finish your education and become a pilot, do you think you will be happy with the results? If so, definitely go for it.

my friend thinks that enlisting is a bad idea. He's tellin me that if I enlist, there wont be any time for me to get an education, and I'll mainly be working the whole time. Then the recruiter told me that the training you recieve for the job you signed on for goes towards college credits, and it also makes you marketable in the civilian world. So I train for the job for 12-16 months, then he said it's like 2 classes away from earning an Associates degree. So I figured after I was done with all that, I would just remain in the Air Force doing the enlisted job for a couple years, until I earned a Bachelors degree, then apply for OTS (officers training school) and get commissioned and finally earn the wings. That's going the whole military enlisted route. This seems like the most realistic option for me at the moment. I wish I could have some feedback from some actual military people, but thanks for everyones input, it does really help!

research it. i'm sure there are sites online about it. talk to other people who are in the military and get their opinions. don't just listen to the recruiter. they are one sided and will probably tell you anything to get you to join. education seems to be the latest propaganda technique. so study. get more than one side. then weigh the pros and cons.
