i need advice from anyone who has a lip piercing

**Adri** is offline
i got a lip piercing on monday. they guy didnt give me anything to clean it with so i just use rubbing alcohol like i did with all nine of my ear piercings. the only thing he told me was to use listerine after everytime i eat. i clean my piercing about 3 times a day and i use the listerine like he said. well i was just cleaning my piercing and there was some puss on it. i freaked out because i dont want it to be infected. its not swollen or sore at all, its not even red. but i was concerned because i dont remember my ears getting like that. is that normal or am i doing something wrong??

You're doing pretty much everything you can. Whenever I have gotten a piercing I usually neosporin it once a day or so to reduce any kind of bad scar tissue build-up or general infections. But yeah, keep at it and you should be a-ok.

I've heard that for some piercings rubbing alcohol isn't the best thing to use... but I'd google it if I were you

I doubt that was puss, actually. It may have been a scab. They look differnt on teh inside of your mouth because they don't have time to harden. It could be just blood plasma, nothing to worry about. As for cleaning the outside, saline works better and doesn't hurt. The piercer doesn't usually give you cleaning supplies, he just tells you what to buy.

You never NEVER put rubbing alcohol on a piercing or any other open wound for that matter.. Rubbing alcohol will keep the wound fresh longer and double the healing process, and have more risk of infection..

You only clean it twice a day, before you sleep and when you wake up..

Dial works very well with cleaning it, but make sure there are no soap residue left.. Aside from listerine you can use sea/rock salt and warm water to gargle with or let a cotton ball absorb it and dab it on the outside part of your lip..

If there's a risk of infection don't take your ring off or it will spread on the inside just keep in clean and make sure your hands are clean, use the dial and the salt water treatment twice a day only..

If there is puss most likely crust will build up if it does just do the salt water treatment and don't peel anything off, you should be fine if you follow that, don't over clean because It's just as worse as not cleaning at all..
