Ever happen to you...
Hmm, so I know I haven't been the most active on here, but I really have no one else to ask, so I'm throwing myself at the mercy of the court... yea, bad quote.
Anyways, for some ungodly reason and don't ask me why or how, but I am having some severe insomnia. I just can't get any damn sleep unless I'm completely drained or I down three tylenol pm's, which I can't use because it leaves me too groggy for work.
To the question, has anyone on here had some really bad insomnia episodes, and if so, any advice for getting back to the dream world thats so much better than the real one?

Not quite a year ago, I had insomnia as well. Mine was stress related. Not quite sure if yours would be the same. It was kind of a difficult time and I would just lay awake at night, unable to stop thinking.
All that was pretty much just caused by my insecurities though, whether the whatever I was thinking about had anything to do with me or not. I have become quite relaxed and happy since then and don't ever have any problems sleeping.
Until you are able to sleep again, the only thing I know to suggest is to get up earlier and be more active throughout the day so you can be sure that you are tired enough to drop straight to sleep at night.
Good luck!
EDIT: Oh yeah... Reading always helped me get to sleep. Depending on the book though it might keep you awake longer.

I had a bad case of it, slept for only about 22 hours a week. But I was in heavy medication then so all I needed was to pop a few of those. I still haven't really gotten out of it from time to time Id slip into it again. I don't have the strong medications anymore but I have a few left that help me sleep.
That did more damage then help though, I'd pass out from time to time even if I'm in the middle of a grocery line or taking a shower.. [not cool]
With out the pills I smoked alot of weed haha! And red books and watched like 4 hour boring movies.

Yea I really don't want to start taking sleep aids, I just went out and bought regular tyelnol so that I wouldn't be so drowsy and theres really nothing stress related coming up soon.
Thanks though for the replies, I'm gonna try and be more active since I sit behind a computer or a counter at work all day and don't move around much.

I'm not sure this is techinically insomnia, but I have the problem that if I stay up late and sleep in habitually I can't sleep til llike 3AM no matter what. That's a current problem actually, which will hopefully get better when I stop closing at Wendy's...
So it might have to do with your sleep schedule. The only thing I've done is either sleep at night or stay up, but it doesn't work perfectly, sometimes I'm too tired during the day and I give in to a nap and sometimes I still get to sleep late then next night. I haven't attempted it in awhile.

I don't know if my case is insomnia, but I have spent several days awake doing nothing but work and homework before.
My longest streak is three days, because after that point, I would pass out.
Sometime last month, my vision started going blurry.
This year, I think I missed about a months worth of sleep because of having so much work to do.
The most I can suggest is to do something that will take your mind off of everything. That will definitely help.

As far as my sleep schedule goes, before I was unable to sleep I had been getting up at about 8 am in the morning. So in all actuality, I can't be too sure if it is just my sleep schedule.
Who knows though, I'll just down some more tylenol pm and sleep early, maybe that'll jar my system back to norm.

This is something random I learned about today. Sleep is often done in cycles, and best enjoyed when you finish a cycle. Most cycles are generally 3 hours.
Einstein has lived his entire life with only 3 hours of sleep a night, and he was fine....according to a teacher of mine.

Do you happen to stay up all night and try to sleep during the day? I work the overnight shift, and have trouble sleeping because my body will not create the meatonin necessary for sleep during the day.
"Normally, the production of melatonin by the pineal gland is inhibited by light and permitted by darkness. For this reason melatonin has been called "the hormone of darkness". The secretion of melatonin peaks in the middle of the night, and gradually falls during the second half of the night." -Wikipedia
My advice: either regulate your sleeping schedule or buy melatonin supplements.
