Enlistment? Help.... - Page 4

So....I started thinking about everything that was going on...and was browsing the internet and came across the 1-800-GO-GUARD website-again.

I started looking into the programs that they offer and decided to drop by the office today.

The result: I have a meeting tomorrow to discuss enlistment...

So discuss....please.

I've been looking at enlistment as an option to help fund my college classes and to learn valuable skills. I know that this is a wartime, but the incentives to join as a "weekend warrior" make it more of a better choice for me...

so I need all you're input on the matter...

My apologies, I thought that the National Guard worked like our Canadian Reserves, which don't go overseas but rather stay at home... which makes sense.

Did you volunteer to go on a tour though?
I know there is a chance that reserves and NG get deployed but a majority of the time they keep those boys here in the states unless they really need someone of that MOS overseas. To my knowledge they usually ask for volunteers from units to leave their unit and join another one in Iraq [or wherever] or they just automatically deploy you because of your MOS and their need for that specific MOS.

No I didnt volenteer.It was a manditory thing,in fact once you hit title-10 orders you are active duty.The military no longes see's you as "gaurd" or "reserve",you are active duty.People enlist in the gaurd thinking the goverment cant break contracts once you in,thats a mistake.I pretty much watched alot of what was in my contract get shreded in my face with a big smile on uncle sam's face haha.

Its all good though,I never would have known the pleasure of someone breaking out a radio in the middle of the woods and playing "sweet emotion" and "paint it black" just to drown out the sound of over head choppers and the smell of the LT's cigars as he uses his favorite line "god damn I love it when a plan comes together." (so typical yet so fitting).The military has good times and bad times.

Every military branch will tell you that theirs is better. It's like competing high schools.
