Enlistment? Help....

So....I started thinking about everything that was going on...and was browsing the internet and came across the 1-800-GO-GUARD website-again.

I started looking into the programs that they offer and decided to drop by the office today.

The result: I have a meeting tomorrow to discuss enlistment...

So discuss....please.

I've been looking at enlistment as an option to help fund my college classes and to learn valuable skills. I know that this is a wartime, but the incentives to join as a "weekend warrior" make it more of a better choice for me...

so I need all you're input on the matter...

I have always supported the military, because I have always looked up to it's soldiers. With everything that's going on this season, it almost leaves me just to do that and nothing else. It's a weekend a month, and no deployment for the first two years, so I can finish college. My dad has a big thing against me majoring in criminal justice...

and now I am looking into military police....One thing leads to another, and at this point, that may be the best option for me....

This sounds spur-of-the-moment-ish, I'd say give it a month or two to think it over, then, if you're still sure, do it.

If it's something you really want to do then don't let anyone stand in your way. Just be aware or the issues with enlistment and the extensions of terms and such. I know too many people who want to get out of the army (ect.) but since the enlisted post-war they can't leave without dishonorable discharge.

Dew eet now. You won't get all those benefits when Military Service is Mandatory.

If you voluntarily go and join the army, then I don't particularly care, it's your choice. I only have a problem if you let them conscript you, because it's unconstitutional and unfair and nobody should simply accept that bullshit.

I mean... I care in the sense of a friend not wanting another friend to put themselves in danger, but if you're just joining the National Guard you're not going to fucking Iraq...

The way I figure it, I could at least get part of the service in before they start conscripting people that don't want to, and the National Guard is like doing Boy Scouts all over again, but to a higher caliber.

Hopefully, I won't go to Iraq, but we would serve both State and Federal Jurisdictions....so that makes it very...interesting.

I feel that being able to serve nearer in my hometown would benefit everyone, including my family, and make me feel as if I am actually doing something.
