Depressed... AGAIN!! Need Advice

Well I'm pretty surprised to find myself writing this right now, especially considering where I am right now. If you guys remember I started posting about my depression in March this year, the whole time I kept telling myself that things would get better once I went to Europe for the summer, and they did to some extent, well for this to all make sense lets go back a month or two...

In mid-May I told my Mom that I have Clinical Depression, so I got a prescription for Wellbutrin, I started taking it like the last week of May until June 25th when I left for Europe, the reason I stopped is simple. Anti-Depressants and alcohol don't mix, so if I'm gonna go to Europe I have to drink, I mean its damn near an insult here to go out and not order a beer, believe me I've tried and it doesn't work, I almost got into an argument with one guy because I was sick of beer and just wanted a Coke, and him and his buddies started with that stupid peer pressure until finally I just said "ALRIGHT!"

So I brought the pills with me just in case I needed them, but I seriously didn't think I would and now I guess the stuff is completely out of my system or whatever but I'm starting to feel shitty again. I want to start taking it again, because in the month that I did take them it was amazing how things turned around for me. But I know that if I do it's gonna be hard to explain to everyone here why I don't drink alcohol, without explaining that I have depression. I already took my first dose this morning since last night I was able to hold off on the alcohol, and I'll see what happens tonight when I go out...

I just don't know what to do...

Take the pills man, depression is nothing to mess with. And if you have to explain to someone why your not drinking, and they don't understand your taking pills that have negative side effects with alcohol, then leave the establishment. I never been to Europe, but I'm sure theres plenty of places to go and that'll understand. Your health is more important than their pride, nuff said.

Yeah I figure I'll make up some bullshit story that I'm taking some random pills that can't be mixed with alcohol. I know they can't force, but they're not gonna make it easy thats for sure, and your right my health is more important than anything.

I agree, I'd rather have weed, but even that isn't the same here, it sucks, cuz back in Cali I smoked so much weed I didn't even think about alcohol.

Just wanted to add:
Last couple of days I've been constantly punching the walls here at work in my room pretty much anywhere, and the walls here are all concrete so it hurts like a bitch, but then again thats the idea... I guess this is some new habit for me, obviously not good, but nonetheless I do it constantly just enough so that it hurts, no bleeding, but yesterday I thought I broke one of my knuckles because it hurts like a bitch for the whole day. Obviously I need to start taking my pills again...

which part of europe are you in?
and dont worry about telling people your depressed
im from england and about 80% of people i know are on anti depressants so noone bats an eyelid when you say your on them...
seriously there are so many clinically depressed people its mad lol
i dont really have any advice on taking them with alcohol though... i dont suppose it would matter if you had one or two drinks but im not sure what the effects of it are with tablets

I'm on anti-depressants as well and they haven't really stopped me from drinking alcohol. I'm on Lexapro and, from my experiences at least, alcohol just makes me really tired. I heard that alcohol just increases the side effects. Whether or not that's true, I have no authority to say. I wouldn't recommend getting trashed though. One or two drinks probably won't too much of an interferance with the pills.

Yeah alcohol doesn't interfer much with my Celexa either. I would say don't drink if you take it like 2 hours before you intend to drink but make it more like 6-8 hours. Then it's out of your stomach and in your bloodstream doing its work.
It's best not to drink alcohol or do drugs though...as alcohol and most drugs are "downers".

If you consider drinking while on anti-depressants, as suggested above... talk to your doctor first!!! Different mood-stabilizers effect different people in a million different ways.

I wish there wasn't this social stigma with depression, but whatever. Actually, I told plenty of people when I was on them. Mostly I had to explain why I was crazy when I missed a day.

Also, are you receiving counseling also? In my opinion, that's pretty important.

Seriously just take the pills. They will help you A LOT! I know when I stopped taking mine for about a month I was fine, then after that things just started going down hill really fast.

If people have a problem with you not drinking just tell them that you are on meds. and you can't drink. There is no need to tell them what you are on or what its for. If you really want to drink you should ask your dr. first. If they say it's alright just drink 1 or 2 until you know how it's going to effect you.
