A Consumer Dilemma
I'm going to buy a harp.
My two options are this:
The first is a 21-inch "Baby Celtic" harp, with 12 strings. It includes an extra set of strings and a tuning hammer. The harp plus an instruction book would cost $92.90. I would also be buying a case for $30.51.
The other option is a 31-inch 19 string celtic harp. It includes an extra set of strings and a carrying case. The harp plus the same instruction book would cost $162.95, and I would need to buy the tuning hammer for $4.99.
Which one should I choose?
The smaller harp is beautiful (as is the larger harp) and it's cheaper, but it has less strings. Less strings= less notes=less complex music in the future.
Both are eligible for free shipping.

Depends. Are you going to stick with learning how to play it? If it's just going to be a once in awhile thing for fun, then I'd go with the cheaper one. But if you're planning on learning in the long term and getting into more complex songs and such, then go with the more expensive one.

Plus, it depends on how complex you want to get with the musical pieces. Plus, I'm a cheapskate.

Is this like the violin you wanted to buy without knowing how to play it? Is "renting" not an option, so that you can decide if you like it or not?

Or "borrowing"? Or "stealing"?

If you're willing to spend that much on it, I s'pose the 50 or so dollars for the big one could be worth it. Though Rist has a point.

I'm still trying to learn, but I need an instructor.
I don't know where I could rent one from.

You'll probably need an instructor for the harp too.

There are a lot of music stores that would let you rent. At least, in Canada there are. I would rent from Long & McQuade, but I think it's only in Canada...
edit: yeah, all their locations are in Canada. Fairly wide-spread, but in Canada. Google renting instruments in New York, or something?
