Question Am I okay

Hi I need advice. I drink about 12 or more cups of coffee and loads more caffeinated drinks like Red Bull and coke. It used to be about 6 cups a day and I thought it was just a stage I was going through. I decided to ignore that fact thinking I would proberly go off coffee and caffeine. But now I have left it for so long I have only ended up craving more and more. When I don't have my caffeine I find myself feeling depressed, Irritable and I just can't concerntrate. I find myself with headaches and shaky and sometimes ill. Funny thing is as soon as I have my caffeine all those horrible feelings seem to go. Is there something wrong. Thanks.

You've become heavily addicted to caffiene and are now having withdrawls because it's not in your system.
Yeah, I'd say that was something wrong.

Just like any other addiction, you need time to get it completely out of your system. Yeah, it'll suck and you'll be having those withdrawl symptoms for awhile, but if you keep putting caffiene in your body you'll never get rid of it.

Yea, that sounds like a problem. Better ween yourself off of caffiene. I don't know if I'd try to do it all right away, but try and cut yourself back a lil. Start substituting some of your caff. drinks with decaf, that's how I'd do it.

It could be psychosomatic, where you think you need it or it causes those symptoms, but your body isn't physically addicted. This doesn't really change things though, unless you can really convince yourself that that's how it is. Other than that, I'd agree that you should probably cut back. Water's always a good choice.

One way to tell if it's psychosomatic is to have a friend switch all of your coffee with decaf and you not know about it. But if you read this then you'll know. So much for that idea.

That's actually not a bad idea. Just tell him/her to do it sometime in the next month or two, not telling you when, even afterwards, and especially if you ask. Then s/he could tell you if it had any effect (if you don't notice for yourself).

i'll put in my vote for caffiene addiction.

another thing you could do is replace it with something else entirely. For instance: every time you want a cup of coffee, have a cup of juice or water. Ginseng may help with the jitters and irritability too. It comes in pill form and various teas found at your local grocer.

Weaning yourself off it is another way to go. Just tone down your intake over time. Give it a couple weeks to a month and just have less caffiene every day. You don't have to go cold turkey. Just watch your intake.

My Friend Lisa from college gave me decafe with out me knowing. I only found out when I went to class and couldn't concerntrate. I thought it was odd because I had the caffeine but then told my friend that she had given me decafe. She wondered how I knew and why I was so irritable.
