Windows Vista Update

I updated my sisters laptop last night from Windows XP Home to Windows Vista Home Premium. I found out last night that the Upgrade will only install a new operating system, and make the other one inoperable. If you need to know how to remove this old operating system and thus free up disk space on your computer. Go to Start>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup. And just make you sure select Previous Windows Installation. This is the second time ive installed this upgrade. Once on my laptop then on hers. But when i installed it on mine, i had problems with the Ethernet Controller, Sound Card, and Video Card. I just had to update the drivers. That was my own fault though, my laptop is about 4-5 years and a Dell so typical. If theres anything anyone needs to know about this topic. Ill be glad to answer anything.
