The new 'MacBook Air'
Unveiled today at MacWorld Expo 08, this is a retardedly-thin notebook with a retardedly-retarded name, and it's one of the thinnest notebooks I have ever seen. Starting at $1799, it comes equipped with a 13" LED-backlit screen, 1.6ghz Intel processor, 2gb of RAM, and an 80gb 4200RPM hard drive. For sequentially higher prices, you can upgrade the various components within. There's even a 60gb solid-state drive as an option.

first of all, it doesn't have a disc drive. in todays day and age, disc based media is still used far and wide. to have it not included is just stupid. secondly, can you imagine the heat generated by the thing? not long after using it it will be scorching hot (i'm thinking). plus, Intel made a windows laptop even smaller than this.

Make a thread about it.
With no internal optical drive, and a custom-designed, smaller CPU architecture, I don't see heat really being a problem. The hard disk is a 1.8" 4200RPM drive, which generates little heat. Also, if you go the solid-state route, that will produce nearly zero heat.
You're right about the disc-based media thing, though. I couldn't see myself buying a laptop without an optical drive.

i get what you're saying about the heat but it looks like it has hardly any heat releases (like vents or something). i still kind of think it wouldn't take long for it to heat up (aside from the solid-state drive but even so).

The Metro is still a prototype and has no slated release date. The MacBook Air has been tested and comes out in only a few short weeks. There's not even a working version of the Metro to compare it with, so I think I'll wait for a working version before we can make comparisons.

undoubtedly, i'm just kind of fed up with Apple's practices. imo, the Intel one looks like it has a lot more features desired.

Do what? What's next, the "fits in your wallet" notebook? I know not much about comps, but I do know my laptop is in the shit, as it doesn't work. I need a new one. I DON'T want one of those. Flimsy. I need TOUGHER. BOOM!
