Gosh dangit!

I'm having problems with my internet. Right now I keep having my cable internet drop out. It's happened 2 nights in a row. For no reason.

I'm using mediacom in california. I haven't had problems until now. I just got cable internet on Friday, but for some reason it's dropping out. I only know it's dropping out because it kicks me out of games i'm playing online or my messengers also kick me out. I'm using a netgear PCI card and a netgear router. However I can aslo access my neighbors linksys router but for some reason that doesn't seem to do much either so I know it's not a router issue, is it maybe my PCI card? I've also still got my old 56k modem in here. Like I said, haven't had problems until September 30th at around 4am pacific time. It dropped out around 11pm later on the same day. I was using it basically all day, from around 10am till around 4pm. no problems there. So then i used it from 6:30 until it dropped out at 11pm. I shut my computer down and let it cool down for about 30 minutes didn't fix the problem. Is it just mediacom?

We do have someone coming on thursday about the cable box because it's been a bit screwed up since we got it. My dads been having problems with that. But that doesn't seem to make a difference because I was even trying my neighbors network and still having this issue.

It definitely sounds like the service itself that's messed up. If you can access other routers and if you have a "local" connection, then it sounds like the PCI card and router is fine. Occasionally, with cable internet, some of the older cable lines can have a screwy connection, so they might have someone come and fix the wiring.

Well i've established that it's not my connection. I was on my neighbors connection for a few moments and it dropped me then too. It was working fine. Also, I was on dialup and it did the same thing, and it's only happening at night so somehow I'm getting hacked. I'm having a problem today as I checked my email that firefox kept crashing which is a sign I have a virus perhaps. However, the connection drop has nothing to do with a virus, as it's only happening at night. What can I do?

Well, is your wireless encrypted? Is it protected by a password?

Nope. No password encryption or anything. So I went ahead and reformatted my PC because I kept having problems with firefox crashing. So I'll find out if it has issues again sometime tonight. I'll keep you posted.
