A 'tragedy.'

On my way into work this morning, the two guys on my favorite radio station brought up a very good debate with each other. They were talking about what considers a death to be tragic.

Brian was saying that no matter how you die, you are going to be missed by just as many people and that dying by getting shot in the face is just as tragic as being 90 years old and passing away in your sleep.

Shaffee was saying that dying at 90 yeas old in your sleep is not a tragic death at all. His point of view is that if you die of natural causes then you death is not as tragic as a guy who gets hit by a bus, murdered and et cetera.

What is your stand point?

I agree with Shaffee.

A man who lives to be of a ripe old age has lived his life out. Someone who's life is suddenly cut short loses the ability to live life to it's natural end.

I did too, completely. I always agree with him on many things that he says and many points that he brings up.

He also asked what would be more tragic, a guy getting hit by a bus or someone blowing up the GA Dome with thousands of people in it.
Brian said that they would both be the same because even though more people died in one place, they are only going to be missed by certain people and not everyone.

Brian kept bringing up the fact that you will be missed by just as many people as anyone else would and wouldn't argue the point on dying of natural causes or by cancer when you're 5.

I gotta go with the Shaffee guy. Anyone in the "old" bracket, and dying from natural causes, isn't a tragedy. But if a busload of kids exploded or something, then that'd be tragic

Exactly. I see it the same way Shaffee does too just because when you are old like that it is expected and we all know that it is going to happen. Yes, people are going to miss you but it isn't going to be the same as a mother's 16 year old son dying in a car wreck.

I agree with the Shaffee guy too. A person who lives to a ripe old age and dies is not a tragedy. Yes that person would be missed a lot, it is not a tragedy. A person who dies via murder, hit by a bus, or anything to that sort is tragic. Most likely their life was cut short.

Yea and every time Shaffee said that, Brian would just throw in the "the same people will miss that one person. No one is different when it comes to death" argument or just say, "You're wrong. I don't agree." They crack me up.
