The Philosophy of the THE MATRIX

So I took a philosophy class last semester and the whole class was based on the amazing Keanu Reeves movie...THE MATRIX! It may have been the most amazing class in my whole school experience...Has anyone else seen or heard about this phonemon

I saw a book on it in the philosophy section of B&N but quickly scoffed and dismissed it. I never really looked into it though I am kinda interested, care to expand a bit on it for the uninformed?

It is a little complicated...I would have to explain the theories of about 8 philosophers...but I am in the process of purging my brain on the subject and putting it down on paper...so when I do that, I will let you know...i

In the meantine here is a website that explains it a little....

The matrix is one giant clusterfuck of theological and philosophical underpinnings.

It's basically a post-modern existentialist movie, with the twist being that there is a definable reality (Zion). In most post-modern stuff, the whole point is there is no absolute reality.

The Matrix series is great for these reasons.

People who didn't like the last 2 usually don't like this kind of stuff, because that's what made the last 2 so outstanding imo.

The first one is still the best though

How exactly is Zion a definable reality? It very easily could have been another "program" fed by the machines...

just goes to show that lives can hypothetically be lived on different "layers" or planes of reality such as the matrix....

no one really know WHY we are here.. just another movie trying to give insight of our existence...i had to watch the movie a couple times to actually understand what it was trying to convey.

My philosophy class was also based on the matrix. It really made you think. The professor was always asking questions like "How do you know its real?" and "What if it's just part of the matrix?" It frustrated a lot of people, but I enjoyed the possibilties.

It could be, but as far as everything revealed in the matrix universe (so far) it's been shown that Zion is real. They had the chance in the third one to have Zion be another "unreality" but they didn't.

Although I'm hoping there will be more from the matrix in the future.
