Just Curious

I believe I have heard recently about a philosopher who did not believe that there was any reason to believe in continuity, causality or any inherent future or past based on cause and effect analysis. He believed this so throughly that he went 'mad' and couldn't live 'knowing' that this universe could essentially collapse at any moment without warning or cause. I can't remember the guy's name and it's bothering me. Could anyone help?

Cool, that's the guy who came up most often but my google searches didn't turn up a biography that even mentioned suicide.

Hume died in 1776, and nothing I've ever read suggested that he committed suicide.
And I highly doubt that he would have committed suicide because of his knowledge of the universe's possible collapse... he would probably have done it out of frustration at the meaninglessness of it... Hume himself said that the notion of an afterlife was a "most unreasonable fancy".

ok, I didn't think this deserved a new thread when this one essentially serves the purpose. For a paper I'm writing I need a good definition of what justice is and preferably someone/a book to quote as the source. Without it I've got something in mind, but I think the professor would like it better if I had something 'respectable' and 'objective' to start my thesis off.
