Evolving Creationism in the Classroom
Evolving Creationism in the Classroom: Scientific American
Will someone please slap that stupid chick Palin with a rolled up Scientific American magazine, maybe, just maybe some of the info inside will get into her head and she will stop saying crazy things...
It's disgusting how the people who want 'intelligent design' taught to their (and everyone elses) kids, use them as mere pawns in this ridiculous battle that they are going to inevitably, LOSE. "teach them both, let the kids decide what they want to learn"... seriously, what the fuck? What other academic curriculum is optional?! This is some serious bullshit, and it really pisses me off a tremendous amount that these people are in charge of running our fucking country, when you take a step back, no fucking wonder we're where we're at, it's pathetic.
Get the fuck over yourselves creationists, IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, you might as well stop trying, one minor 'victory', if you can even call it that, in Louisiana does not mean SHIT. The rest of the grown up's have all 49 other states, when the fuck will you hop on the wagon, god damn!
When will this END?!

Let's also ask kids if they want to learn about Susan B. Anthony or Brittney Spears.
Or do they want to read John Locke's Second Treatise of Government, or Harry Potter books.
Wow, why aren't more classrooms letting the students decide the curriculum?

I know right, I mean, it makes so much sense!
I hope these people eventually realize that this seemingly innocent academic objection is epicly destroying their own childrens capacity to learn, and ultimately, get into good colleges. It's total lose-lose and the people don't even see it... What do they expect to accomplish from teaching creationism in highschool? They're preying on young minds because the people spitting this shit know they are the easiest to manipulate and a young person is less likely to confront an idiot on their bullshit, especially if it's some 'moral figure' seen throughout the community... ugh! It's so deceptive, if it was any other group of people they'd have been slapped silly long ago, but they wave the Christian banner and are excluded from major critisism...
 congratulations at failing at life...

I'd disagree, I think most people clamoring for this legimitly believe they are doing the right thing.
Same as in politics, yeah there are people pulling strings attempting to bring about world domination, but most joe schmoes are so indoctrinated themselves, they buy into all the insanity.
This issue is no different. I just think we should be careful painting these people as malicious folks who's intentions are to bring harm to others.
I mean, as Opu said in another thread, the road to hell is paved with them, but I think it makes a difference. I don't think most of these people are thinking "ah young minds, fresh for the taking." they're probably closer to "oh no! I have to save these kids from eternal damnation because they think the earth isn't 6000 years old!"
Like I've said, creation/intelligent design can be a one sentence presentation in science class, which is supposed to be about SCIENCE, not personal beliefs.

Yeah, I'm gonna try to work on that, I tend to always talk about the fanatics and not the genuinely good religious people without mentioning it...
that's my bad.
I would agree with you, most actually believe the fairy tale and feel obligated to 'save' the rest of us.

It's not necessarily any better in terms of end results, but I think too often all people (me included) assume the worst about others when really, it's mostly a difference of perspective that has not been resolved.

seriously, public schools are a state institution, which means they have to teach the science view don't they. I mean we are suppose to keep anything religious associated out of school. Heck in my highschool, the morning prayer groups or whatever, had to be led by students, although thats a bit obvious. If people want creationism taught, send them to a private religious school, plain and simple.

Why is it that these nuts want to push their views and beliefs on everyone? I mean, isn't that the reason why we have churches? You go to school to be smart and learn how the world works, and then you go to church if you want astrology in the form of a fairy tale to be told to you.
Why do they insist on pushing this on children, and disguising it as a choice? IT'S A CHOICE ALREADY.
