Does a presidential candidates religion matter to you?
Honestly, does it matter to you what religion a candidate has, weather he's Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Bhuddist, Catholic, Atheist, etc...?
Also, why does it or doesn't it matter?
Furthermore, as a nation overall do you think it matters? (do you think a person has a chance at winning the presidency if they have one of the minority religions or no religion at all?)

As long as they are not an extremist I don't think it matters. I don't think someone with a minority religion has as much of a chance at winning. To many people would use that to judge them wrongly.

"religion" in my mind is bigger than what theology you have. So what particular theological structure you have is meaningless to me.
My bigger concern are the ideals instilled by your particular brand of theology.
Is your focus love, respect, and personal responsibility, or dogmatic rule of force?
I'd vote for anyone from any religion (including atheism) if I thought they had an understanding of what Freedom is in the largest sense.

I think that it is irresponsible and foolish to vote for a presidential candidate based on their religion. But then again, religion isn't really a priority of mine. I prefer a candidate that addresses the issues in this country using logic, history and a level head.
I mean... I don't care if whoever it is speaks by using only verses from The Bible as long as they will make a competent president.

I judge candidates by their policies, not by their religion. If they are an atheist who supports banning all religious institutions, then I wouldn't vote for them. The government doesn't have the authority to do that. If they are a fundamentalist Christian who would revoke rights from people based on arbitrary bullshit written ages ago, I would definitely not vote for them. Obviously I don't need to explain my reasoning for that, it's already all over this forum.
If they are someone who supports teaching science in a public Science class, ending public funding of religious sectors, abolishing un-constitutional agencies, and over all not intruding on the personal lives of anyone under their jurisdiction... then I would vote for them. Regardless of their religion.
edit: However... honesty is also a quality I value. And if it's a fundamentalist Christian who supports teaching Creationism but passes bills for actual science to be taught instead, I would vote for the atheist who actually believes in the policies he supports, thereby showing backbone rather than cowardice. Anyone who compromises his principles in order to rally voters is a poor excuse for a politician, and not worth my vote.

Naturally I have to agree with this. Religion is not really a factor but it is the way they think and their understanding of freedom.

As long as they don't let their religion rule over them in office I don't care.

When you start basing your choice of who's going to run your country on what their religious beliefs are is when you become wetawdead.

It doesn't matter to me. If you are slick and crooked enough to make it to the office of the president, then I would doubt your religious beliefs anyways.
