Little Toast Creates Big Commotion
Little Toast Creates Big Commotion

Since October, students have been witnessing the proliferation of drawings of an angry little toast. This miniature creature has caused an unexpected uproar of mixed reactions within the student body. What began as a joke circa October 2005 has rapidly evolved into a subject of interest for students, and a matter of concern for school officials, who have encountered the ubiquitous drawings throughout the campus. Many people are puzzled about the real meaning behind "Beast Toast." However, some students believe that they have found true significance behind this whimsical character. "Beast Toast is designed to make you think about the propaganda we are exposed to daily, because if a silly drawing can cause as much discussion as it has, it proved the power of subconscious persuasion," said junior Jordan Schmidt. Other students are interested, but not quite sure what to think. "I think it's funny, but I don't even know what it is. I've asked everyone and nobody knows," said junior Gaby Chavez. And some students are rather appreciative of the toasty presence. "It's a really great statement, not offensive, purely funny, and very mysterious," said junior Alison Sieke. While the anonymity behind "Beast Toast" has contributed to its popularity, school administrators are not as amused by it and are seeking the perpetrator. After the little creature started appearing on tenacious postal stickers last month, Assistant Principal of Discipline and Activities Drew Sotelo sent an email to all CCHS staff directing them to send any student who may have a picture or any information on "Beast Toast" up to the office. The e-mail, which included an attachment of photographs of the character, explained that the type of postal sticker being used is very difficult to remove. While he admitted that he does not think "Beast Toast" is a concern that threatens out educational opportunities here on campus, Assistant Principal of Discipline and Athletics Steve Gyepes said, "If they're damaging school property, consequences can include suspension or possible fines." Those fines can be as high as $1,000, he added. Such a penalty for pasting stickers with an inoffensive drawing on them seems harsh, especially when compared to "other things are much more destructive and violating." but Gyepes explained, "anytime things are posted around school with out administration approval, it can lead to problems." Basically what this comes down to is: any form of vandalism, whether it's a joke or purposely offensive, will have a definite punishment from the school as well as a very possible consequence from the police. Along with some student opposition, "Beast Toast" has accumulated several rivals. These mean menaces include: "Dangerous Doughnut," "Awful Waffle," and "Angry Apple." The attempts to compete with "Beast Toast," however, have failed miserably. None of these other characters seems to have caused as much ruckus as "Beast Toast."
