Have you ever received negative feedback from your interest in fashion?

Ever since I was really young I was into fashion and other tween/teen trends and now even as a 24-year-old I'm interested in fashion (geared more toward my age though) but anyway growing up my sisters constantly thought I was really vain and shallow for having the interest but at the same time they jump on me for taking it easy instead of getting all dolled up or whatever. And one them even became more interested in fashion when she got money from work and such. And the other is a self described weirdo who makes an effort not to blend in with "normal" people.

In highschool, yes, because I chose to never match... I liked the idea that people reacted to me in some kind of way, either negative or positive.

Now, people don't really react to my style in "fashion" as I wear a lot of witty shirts and black pants/shorts. Not really original, but comfy and interesting... Although I still get a lot of looks for my shirt that says "Don't Piss Me Off... I'm running out of places to hide the bodies."

LOL, I love the idea of a t-shirt that says that.

Honestly, I can't stand shirts with text on it. Sorry for the negative input.

I lack any sense of fashion. Blue jeans, black t-shirt. Maybe my black hoodie and my awesome brown cap. I'm pretty generic, but like I always say, simplicity is the way to go.

I wear almsot anything. As long as it's clean and presentable...I'll get it.
But I did happen to have a slight change in fashion and my friend didn't agree with me on how I looked. It was one of those baby-doll cut shirts, and she said that it made my hips lookbigger than they actually were.

It hurt coming from a friend who's all...high and mighty with herself on how cool all her outfits looked. but whatevs.

I wear what I want, and if you think it doesn't look good to your terms...then tough shit. It's my opinion over yours, and I'm obviously not going to choose you. Let a woman be freeeee.

=)

I was your weird sister in high school.
I suppose my fashion was a.."grunge" look.
Ripped jeans, band tshirts, boots.
Now that I'm older, make my own money, and can make my own decisions I realized I'd rather wear a dress rather than pants, any day of the motherfucking week. Especially dresses with lots of lace, ruffles....I don't know, I think I missed out on something in my childhood and now I'm making up for it by dressing like a lolita.

I like Earth tones. And black. But not together.

I keep thinking it'd be cool to do the dress and skirt thing but I can't find anything I like. I used to be against them, I'm still not getting anything short without shorts under them, I'm too active, I'd end up showing things not intended for public viewing. XD

I'll be very honest. I don't pay much attention to fashion trends or the so-called "fashion do's and don'ts" and to this day, I've always been one to just do me, straight up. Not to say tat negative feedback can't always be constructive but, let's be real here - people do like to hate on what otherwise could be a great thing.

For example, not being able to wear white before labor day? I manage to pull that off every other day, even when I'm not working. Give me a white t-shirt with my blue jeans and my white sneakers and I'm fine. Only thing missing is my baseball cap which is always ever so slightly tilted to the left.

Other times, you'll find me in a nice pair of slacks and a button down or, if I really wanted to do it up for work or to *ahem* impress, there's always the full fledged suit.

I guess what I am trying to say is, whatever looks good on you, just roll with it. If by some chance conforming to the norms of what people around you have embraced is not an option, then improvise. As long as 1.) you look good in it and 2.) if you're looking to catch somene's eye, you're willing to conform but, in a reasonable way. In other words, avoid dressing to appease someone or, it'll look forced.

I am the same way now as you and Girl are. I was a tomboy all throughout school and, I mean, I still have that mind set but lately I have been trying to find skirts and shit like that to wear but it is SOOOO hard to find skirts that I truly like and will wear. I own two but only wear one of them from time to time...usually to concerts and shit like that.

As for the topic, I have received a lot of negative feedback for the way I dressed and still do. My interest in fashion is my own entirely. I have never really cared about what other people thought and I still don't.
For example, the other day my favorite pants tore in the left knee and it pissed me the fuck off....but whenever my pants get worn like that and tear I will wear stockings that go over the knee so you see my kick ass socks through my pants. I always did that throughout high school when my pants ripped and sometimes I would get "That looks awesome!" and other times I would get "Why the hell did you do that?" responses but I honestly didn't care.

When I would make my own skirts, I kind of got looked at weird too because I always thought wearing skate shoes with skirts looked off and retarded and I only had one pair of shoes [skate shoes] so when I wore skirts to school, I wanted to be able to throw my own pair of shoes into the outfit since I had no other choice. I would take pants that didn't fit me anymore [like black dress pants or just black pants in general] and cut them off at the knees, and then safety pin them to my stockings so my skate shoes worked with my skirt.
Which I got looked at funny for a few years for doing that but then all of a sudden leg warmers came back into 'fashion' and then I thought that was retarded and stopped doing it because I didn't want to look like all of the other morons that only shop at Hot Topic.

I would also make skirts out of old pajama pants and then cut off from the knees down, as well, and make those go with my shoes...but yea...hah.
