I thought we had a thread for this, but a search revealed nothing... so here we go.
Who are your favourite authors [and books that made you fall in love with them]?
In no particular order:
1. Michael Oondatje [The English Patient]
2. P.D. James [Children of Men]
3. Piers Anthony Dillingham Jacob (Piers Anthony) [The Incarnations of Immortality Series]
4. R.A. Salvatore [The Legend of Drizzt Series]

I hate 'literature'... I'd much rather read a good book.
Oh man... my brain almost exploded whenever I read the topic, trying to think of one author. Then I read the OP and see that you meant plural, heheh.
The order in which I discovered them.
Frank Herbert - "Dune"
Robert Jordan - "Eye of the World"
Robert Heinlein - "Stranger in a Strange Land," and "Friday"
I only put authors that I have read more than one book by and been consistently blown away. I have many more for whom I have read only a single book that really impacted me. That is for another time, when I can really reflect on it.

I like a lot of the stuff by Piers Anthony, but it was his Xanth series. David Eddings and his Belgarion and Mallorian series, and then there was the Dune series too. I don't read as much I used to, so I can't remember anything else.

Song of the Moment: "Prostitution is Revolution" by Cobra Starship
Frank Herbert - "Dune"
Robert Jordan - "Eye of the World"
Robert Heinlein - "Stranger in a Strange Land," and "Friday"
I love Dune and Stranger in a Strange Land!
Let's see...I have so many favorite books and authors that I will probably post on this topic multiple times. To start out, though:
Ray Bradbury Something Wicked This Way Comes
Haruki Murakami The Wind-up Bird Chronicle
Kurt Vonnegut Slaughterhouse-Five
Mark Z. Danielewski House of Leaves
Albert Camu The Stranger
J.R.R. Tolkien The Hobbit
Anne Rice Interview with a Vampire
Philip Pullman His Dark Materials
Fyodor Dostoevsky Crime and Punishment
Joseph Heller Catch 22
Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice
Stephen King Needful Things
John Irving A Prayer for Owen Meany
Douglas Adams A Hitcher's Guide to the Galaxy
William Golding Lord of the Flies
Ken Kesey One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Marion Zimmer Bradley The Mists of Avalon
Erich Maria Remarque All Quiet on the Western Front
I think that's enough for now.
Btw, there are authors that I have read multiple books by and my favorites by them are not the first ones that I have read by them (listed above).
