I'm asked to look
at a dead crow
crippled in powdered snow
but the contrast hurts my eyes
the fusion of black and white
when dark bleeds into bright
and wings collapse like sky.
Now the corpse makes not a sound
when I lower my eyes
to the bare branches
of winter trees tangled abound
as the bird's lifeless body,
untouched, but not unfelt
sinks into the stoic ground.
