I thought it was kinda funny, they just reverse it all to make a point.

Actually, the "biological" argument that people are genetically predisposed to be gay is -- according to my understanding -- a far better theory than the "they choose to be gay" argument. Aside from the logic in it, this one also does not give the Christians the benefit of saying that we consciously sin with our desires.

I can see how -- from the 'nurture' perspective -- this is a perfect irony. Appreciable.

Not that it matters. But what is the acceptable reason for homosexuality within the gay community? I still think it's a combination of nurture/choice. Not that you need a reason for it, that sounds bad.

I totally agree. I wish scientists could prove that you were born with your sexuality. It just sounds odd to me that there's possibly a "gay gene." I guess I didn't think about the fact that there could be a specific gene responsible for your sexuality. I suppose that mean that there's a "straight gene," too?

You mean "nature vs. nurture" (biological or choice). And I wish I could say that there is consensus about it. Most people, including my psychology professor, believe that it is due to nature. You're born gay, or, at least, predisposed towards homosexuality. As for whether or not it's a specific "gay gene", I don't think they'll find one. Sexuality is far too complicated to be traced to a single genetic marker. It's a set of alleles that have an even distribution of presentation across the world, I believe. Those people in Palestine who go on about how they "don't have gay people" are fucking stupid. In fact, they usually have enormous gay undergrounds...

As I said above, I don't think there's a specific "gay gene", just a combination that has a relatively common presentation. Genetics are extremely complicated, and even our understanding of it sometimes leads to more questions (like how, in spite of the "five-fingered" gene being recessive, it's everyone's phenotype).

I know the nature vs nurture debate, but I am saying that my own opinion is that it is nurture/choice combination. I find it hard to believe that people are born with a predisposition to be gay or straight. No one is born cool (except for me). No one is born an asshole. No one is born straight, no one is born gay.

I think that those two have the biggest effect. It can be a combination, or either.

A "combination" as you had put it implied both nature and nurture. I had set out to inform you of how misleading you were. From what you've said, you believe that the issue is entirely nurture. You're raised gay and consciously choose to be gay.

A true "combination" is that you have a predisposition to homosexuality, and you consciously pursue it. People who don't are choosing to be straight, or bi. This may go against their particular nature, depending on how inclined they are towards "being gay".

I say your genetics are one thing, and what you believe yourself to be is often something else entirely. People can go beyond their "programming" because we're gifted with something called "sentience". I don't, however, see the need in most cases.
