They might have been. They were supposedly superfast bugs or some sort of creatures. They could only be seen by cameras, but most were double-exposed moths or meteor particles. But some...were never explained! Ooooooh.

Thats the shit that I really hate about that show, nothing is ever concluded at the end, and the mystery of whatever monster they spent however much time tracking turns out to be completely useless and pointless everytime, same goes for anything on ghosts or aliens, etc... at the end all your ever left with is a couple vague pictures and some inaudable audio tape...fantastic...

I'll save my hour for something a little more productive...
