In a recent article in the latest issue of Game Informer, they mentioned that market analysts suspect that most people who bought a PS3 bought one simply to sell it on ebay. Very few people who bought a system bought any controllers or games with it, and the over saturation of the ebay market with PS3 consoles drove the price down.
Meanwhile, something like 85% of people who purchased a Wii also bought Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and a majority also bought a second wiimote and nunchuck.
It seems to me that Sony has somewhat shot themselves in the foot being so overly concerned with pushing a blu-ray player when the media itself isn't even established. Let's not forget that the HD-DVD media is quickly on its way from microsoft. Depending on which way the market shifts, people with a PS3 may have the equivelent of an 8-track or beta-max player built in to their PS3.
I want the PS3 to succeed. I can't wait to play games like DMC4 and MGS4. Sony has consistently delivered to their fans with quality games and great system support. I mean, there is still God of War 2 coming out on PS2 this March. My problem is that I can't justify spending $600 because of a blu-ray player that may be obsolete in a year.
Peace,
Craig
