lol, you gotta build 2 decks in that tournement, as 2 people need to play in teams. Anyway, its not that hard to be good at this game. When I was sponsered, I would practice once a week so I can keep the sponsership. But then it just got too time entensive, so I cut it down to just going to tournements. All you really need is a group of people you know who understand the game on a competitive level and the rest just falls into place. You just learn it all faster.
But yea, I understand the time thing, it prevents me from play testing as much as I use to, but I still try to make the time for tournements mainly because card gaming has always been a big part of my life (part of my college scholarships is from playing pokemon tournements.) At worse, if I did terrible, I can always hang out with friends.
If you get the time, check out an FNM. I would link the FNM page here, but i'm not sure what the policies on linking is. FNM stands for Friday Night Magic, where players get together for free tournements in Standard (can only use cards from Ravnica Block, Time Spiral block, Coldsnap and 9th Edition) or Booster draft (3 packs of the latest block...open a pack, pass the pack to your left, then grab from your right, and repeat till all cards are distributed this way...then build a 40 card deck with unlimited basic land supply.) Its usually fun, especially for people with tight schedules (same time every week makes it easier to schedule)
