Okay... that's a terrible definition of a meme.
"Meme" was coined by Richard Dawkins in the 1970s in his book
The Selfish Gene as a term to describe a cultural trait that is propagated in a similar fashion to a genetic "gene". The idea is that, similar to how a gene is passed into a gene pool, a meme becomes a cultural phenomena. In some cases, however, a meme is more accurately compared to a virus. Memes can take many forms, including that of tunes, fashions, technology, and even beliefs.
Now, for this sad excuse for music. Ick. I mean, yes, most of Japanese culture is ripped forcibly from the ass of North America (with laxatives), including, ironically, the hallmark of Japanese culture: anime (which is their attempt to recreate 2-D Disney animation), but this takes the cake in regards to bad cross-overs.
