Adoption is awesome, but the reality is most kids going through foster parents and being adopted are dealing with tough lives and have some pretty severe issues parents will have to face while raising them.
Kids take patience, but these kids take even more patience, and a special kind of understanding not everyone has.
I would encourage anyone to do it, but just know what you are getting yourself into.
As far as adopting babies from other countries goes, that's well and good, but there are waiting lists for those, while there are tons of kids right here right now who could use a good home and family to support them and raise them. I would encourage people to adopt older kids as well as the cute little babies (who will still be little assholes through puberty).
I work with a lot of kids who end up in adoption and foster family programs. They really do increase a kids chance of success after they're done in a residential program or partial program.
I'm all for foreign baby adoption though. I just know a lot of people don't think about how many kids there are who need a family.
