I used to like this song until I realized exactly what it was saying. Allow me to explain...
Also, I'm taking out the chorus after the first time I comment it, just incase you notice some parts are missing.
Quote:
Me and all my friends
We're all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing and
There's no way we ever could
Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it
So we keep waiting
(waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
(waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
|
Why does it make sense to wait on the world to change? If everyone is waiting that disagrees and is letting the people who like it the way it is do what they're doing until they change, NOTHING WILL CHANGE.
The people
Quote:
It's hard to beat the system
When we're standing at a distance
So we keep waiting
(waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
|
Yes, yes it is. So stop complaining from a distance and get closer and DO SOMETHING.
Quote:
Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
|
Yes, it's just that simple. However this seems to be mostly an anti-war statement, which I can respect.
Quote:
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want
|
I do like this part.
Quote:
It's not that we don't care,
We just know that the fight ain't fair
So we keep on waiting
(waiting)
Waiting on the world to change
|
Usually when there's a fight to be made it's quite often the minority that has to stand up and fight. Never is it fair, that's generally the problem! Wtf. I don't see how this is really the thing stopping you from changing things.
It is addictive and has a nice rhythm and I find myself singing it sometimes when it's on the radio, but really most of it has stupid ideas to me, mainly the chorus.
