I dig monster movies with a little bit of realism in 'em. I don't like the over the top gigantic demon thing that nobody knows how to destroy, those types of movies usually go bust for me (cloverfield, godzilla), I think the best monster in any movie is that decaying zombie thing in the basement in the earlier night of the living dead movie, I remember it looked like he was covered in black oil or something, anyway, really scary looking monster! Things that the average hero human can defeat, but may be killed in the process. I agree with Opyu about the two characters from Tremors, now that I think of it, they were awesome 'hero' types! Especially Kevin Bacons character, they complimented eachother pretty well.
