What Laina writes while half asleep.

A glance towards the clock gave her the notion that it was approximately 10:48 am.
I should be in class right now, she thought. But it didn’t stir her a bit and she just rolled back over and covered herself with the comforter.
This was her normal schedule. On Monday mornings, she would never wake up in time to go to her first class. Even if she was awake on time, very rarely was it worth climbing out of bed and into the shower immediately. She couldn’t go to class with her hair dirty; therefore, she just didn’t go. It was almost a rule.
It was fine though. This class met three times a week, so she had plenty of time to make up for whatever was lost. Not to mention that despite this schedule, she got one of the best grades on the past exam. There was no problem.
However, at this point it was futile to try to sleep more. The daylight was creeping in through the cracks in the blinds and she was actually starting to feel ready to get up. But as she cautiously stuck her foot out from underneath the covers, she promptly pulled it back in. It was much too cold.
She stared towards the wall. There was a spot where she had peeled off the top layer of paint. It was barely noticeable other than the lack of shine in that one spot. Hopefully housing wouldn’t notice that come the day when she had to move out and move on.
As she stared, she tried to remember her dreams from the night before. She remembered some live-action game dealing with coins. Also, there was something about some person trying to write a song; this person had an obsession with the D chord and so the very ending was quite monotonous. She had received a huge bouquet in the dream, interestingly enough, while in the kitchen of her old house. What stood out to her at this point is the fact that when someone asked her whom the gracious gift was from, she could not remember the name of her new boyfriend. And it was not until she awoke that her thoughts connected and produced the name ‘Ryan’. This would not have normally bothered her, but her continuous pondering was due to a comment made the night before.
She had been sitting with Steve, passing the time by watching random shows on television. There was really nothing on, as usual. The Oscars were on, but there was a severe lack of interest since the red carpet fashion watch was already over.
Her phone rang suddenly and she picked up. After talking to Chris Newberger about the mundane events of the weekend, she hung up. But Steve, being the observant and intelligent fellow that he is, had been aware of something.
“You said friend,” he stated calmly, his eyes not moving from the screen.
She paused for a moment in confusion.
“You just referred to Ryan as your friend. You said ‘I helped a friend apartment- sit’, not ‘I helped my boyfriend apartment-sit.’”
She didn’t think too much about it at that very moment. It was a simple mistake. He had only become her boyfriend that night before. It was a new thing.
But as she sat in bed and contemplated all these things, she realized that maybe she was indeed jumping into relationships too fast. Perhaps even using the term ‘friend’ to refer to him was a Freudian slip.
And that thought brought her back around full circle to the fact that she skipped class this morning. It was a psychology class.
