A lot of fights start like this. Someone does or says something, then someone else says something that he thinks is funny, then the person that did or said something that got the reaction from the guy that said something he thought was funny says something along the lines of, "You got a problem with that?", and that's when the third person comes in and says, "You won't hit him" or, "You gonna take that?". He is just an instigator and wants to see a fight.
